Tom Nelson

Tom Nelson joined Chisholm Trail Broadcasting in 2004 and focuses on sports advertising sales and sports broadcasting. Nelson, a 1989 graduate of Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas, began his broadcasting career in 1986 as a disc jockey at KJLS radio in Hays.  After graduating from FHSU, he worked in the sports department at WIBW-TV in Topeka, Kan., before joining the staff of the Continental Basketball Association's Topeka Sizzlers and eventually becoming the Director of Game Operations.  In 1990, Nelson became the mid-day disc jockey and sports director at KQLA radio in Manhattan, Kan.  In 1992, he moved to Dodge City, Kan., and was video producer at Media Services, Inc..  During the next eight years, Nelson broadcast high school sporting events in Western Kansas and was the Voice of the Dodge City Community College Conquistadors. In 1999, Tom became the first Director of Media Relations at Dodge City Raceway Park

In 2000, Nelson founded and was the general manager of the Dodge City Legend of the United States Basketball League. During four seasons with the Legend, his teams won two USBL Championships and he was named USBL Executive of the Year in 2000 and 2003.  His 2003 title team won the most games in USBL history (28-5).  In 2004, he took over as general manager of the Oklahoma Storm in the USBL and worked with the team until 2007.
 
Since joining Chisholm Trail Broadcasting, Nelson has hosted the Pioneer Cellular Countdown to Kickoff and the Dobrinski Automotive Scoreboard Roundup, has been the voice of the KNID Area Football and Basketball Game of the Week, the 1640 "The Score!" High School Football Game of the Week, the Oklahoma Storm, and has broadcast high school and American Legion baseball and area basketball tournament and playoff games.  He is married to Julie Nelson, the Marketing Director and Volunteer Coordinator at Hospice Circle of Love and has two children:  Joshua and Gabrielle.
